Stella Tennant | Steven Meisel | Vogue Italia October, 2011 | The Discipline of Fashion

Stella Tennant bears a remarkable resemblence to images of real life Ethel Granger, (1905-1982) who remains the holder of the world’s smallest waist record. Note that Guiness changed the title to the smallest living woman waist in 1998, perhaps fearing that no other woman will ever stand a chance against Ethel.

Ethel said repeatedly that she wore corsets to please her husband and pierced her body for the same reason. A quick review of the literature doesn’t specifically address when Ethel had a BDSM relationship with her husband, but we are digging further.

We’re assuming that Steven Meisel did some fine Photoshop work on Stella Tennant, styled by Karl Templer in ‘The Discipline of Fashion’ for Vogue Italia October 2011. A certain style rigor is very popular for Fall 2011. In the case of corsets, they are worn both both dominant and submissive role players.

Stella Tennant’s corset is made by Deborah Milner.

As expected at AOC, we prefer women holding the whip. Anne See Stella’s cover and the real Ethel Granger.

The Daily Mail is up in arms over the entire editorial, but I have no issue with it. It’s been a fascinating read about Ethel and educational, too. However do women understand our history, if we don’t delve into topics like this one, too? I’m getting pc’d to death these days, concerned as I am about fashion’s size 0 models. I honestly don’t believe this is the next step … I mean that would be crazy … . impossible … don’t let me think about this too long …
