Company Meeting, J Arthur Dixon, Newport, Isle of Wight

J Arthur Dixon Ltd was a postcard and greetings card company which had headquarters on the Isle of Wight and which, in 1956, opened a second factory on the Longman Industrial Estate, Inverness.

The Inverness factory closed in the late 1970s and the building subsequently became the base for Stratton Dairies. It was demolished in early 2004 to be replaced by a retail outlet. The company's ownership changed a number of times and it no longer has any presence on the Isle of Wight, having been bought by John Hinde, a company based in the south-west of England.

The photograph on the left may be of interest to anyone researching the history of the company. It was taken during a company meeting at Newport, Isle of Wight in the early 1950s.

The founder, J Arthur Dixon himself, is second from the right in the front row. Next to him (third on the right) is John Buxton. In the back row, Alex Hamilton is standing at the left and the third from the left is Ronald Hastain. I'm grateful to J Arthur Dixon's daughter for help in identifying Mr Buxton and Mr Hastain. I am unable to put names to the others but if anyone has any information please get in touch with me. The man on the left of the front row may be Cliffy Stow.
