From Olbia 150 Km
Drive onto the direction of Sassari until you arrive on the SS597, after circa 70 Km take the first gate for Chilivani-Mores, on the roundabout of Chilivani you'll find the gate for Mores in direction for SS131 CA-OR, after 30 Km you'll find the cross point for Bosa-Macomer turn in that direction, after 3 Km you'll find another cross point for Bosa SS129bis follow it by passing the towns of Sindia and Suni. You are arrived in Bosa!

From Alghero Km 45
Following the waterfront towards South take the panoramic road SP105, it offers a magnificient view of the cliffs and sea; in proximity of Cape Marargiu area crosses a wildlife reserve where it is possible to see the Griffon Vultures wheeling in the skies high above. Carry on this road completely uninhabited for 40 kilometer. You are arrived in Bosa!

From Porto Torres route SS131 Km 122
Get out of the harbor going to the indications for the SS131 to Sassari direction, go beyond Sassari and go on to Macomer direction, get out of the SS131 turning to the right for Macomer-Bosa, and than turn still to the right toward Bosa for the SS129 Bis, you go beyond the Town of Sindia and of Suni. You have arrived in Bosa!

From Cagliari route SS131 Km 185
You get out of the harbor of Cagliari and direct you toward the SS131, go to Macomer direction, and than take the exit for Borore Macomer, cross Macomer and you'll find the cross for Bosa SS129 bis you go beyond the Town of Sindia and of Suni. You have arrived in Bosa!

WHAT TO SEE:

A small marine town, Bosa is one of the ancient capitals of Sardinia and preserves signs of its splendid past throughout the main streets and historic center, rich in churches and monuments. The extremely nearby coast, high and sheer above the sea, is internally covered by the uncontaminated and richly perfumed thick underbrush of the Mediterranean shores. The small pebbled bays are touched by the clear and fish-filled sea. A true underwater paradise, with red coral that local artisans have made their living from for generations. The seaside in Bosa Marina, which is renowned for its friendly beaches, warm water and small efficient tourist port. Bosa is the only town in the island placed along the banks of the river Temo, that is navigable as far as two km from the mouth. An important Carthaginian trading centre, Bosa became a Roman municipium for the presence of a natural gat, then a feud of the Malaspina marquises: they built a castle in 1112, which is still today the town's distinguishing mark. The Cathedral and the Church of San Pietro Extramuros are worth a visit, they are just outside the town, upstream, along the river. During your visit, don't miss the evocative walk along the Temo that leads to Bosa Marina, starting from the red trachyte Bridge in front of the Cathedral. Along the river there are the buildings of Sas Conzas, used for tanning skins in the nineteenth century, Corso Vittorio Emanuele and Piazza Costituzione, partly porticoed, with the Fontanone (big fountain) in the centre.
In Bosa craftsmen specialised in manufacturing the gold filigree are famous as well as the characteristic embroidery of the women from Bosa, called filet of Bosa. The Bosa Carnival is renowned. The festival of S. Maria of the Sea takes place on the first Sunday in August, for four days, a boat procession moves up the river Temo from Bosa Marina, passing through the city.

  • Sardinian cuisine is a celebration of natural products from the land and surrounding sea. A Sardinian meal always begins with an appetizer: wild boar ham, sausage lamb and bottarga (dried and pressed roe of tuna or mullet). First courses includeSa fregula, an irregularly shaped, grain sized pasta served in fish broth; malloreddus, culingionis, and panadas. The traditional Sardinian meats are spit-roasted suckling pig, baby lamb, kid, sa cordula, cleaned lamb intestines roasted.
    The varieties of fish that Sardinians prefer roasted over coals are: gilthead bream, striped bream, sea bass, red mullet, and eel, lobster, shrimp, clams are used in all sorts of pasta and rice dishes. The shepherd's ancient tradition has led to the production of many different types of cheese now produced in modern factories. Among the most wellknown is the popular fiore sardo or pecorino sardo, a firm cheese made from fresh, whole sheep's milk and lamb or kid rennet. Dolce sardo is a softer, cow's milk cheese.
    Bread for all the occasions and for every festivity. Some examples are: su civraxu, the most common, large, round, flour loaf; su coccoi made with hard-wheat semolina and cut on top with scissors to form small decorative points (is pizzicorrus) that become crisp and golden when baked; su pani carasau or carta musica (literally, sheet music) a round, wafer thin, crisp sheet of flour and semolina. Excellent served with salt and olive oil, it is then called su pani guttiau. Pani carasau is used to make a homely but delicious first course, su pani frattau, in which the thin sheets are first dipped in broth or boiling salted water, layered with tomato sauce, minced meat and grated cheese, and topped with a poached egg.
    There is a wide array of sweets. Sebadas are fried ravioli-like pastries of fresh cheese, covered with honey. Pardulas are little pastry "baskets" of sweetened farmer's cheese. Pistoccheddus and papassinas are made with flour, eggs and sugar. Almonds are the main ingredient in amarettus, candelaus, and sospirus.
    Sardinia is also home to great red and white wines such as the prestigious Vernaccia di Oristano, the Vermentino di Gallura that make excellent aperitif wine, the strong Cannonau and the Malvasia di Bosa, among the most interesting Italian meditation wines. Also two characteristic alcoholic are mirto, flavored with native myrtle berries, and su fil'e ferru, distilled from the grape dregs left over from winemaking.
