Who is Charlie Papazian?

Charlie Papazian is the president and founder of the Association of Brewers. he has guided the development of the Association's four divisions: The American Homebrewers Association, The Institute for Brewing Studies, The Great American Beer Festival and Brewers Publications. In addition to overseeing the operations of the entire association, his work within these divisions includes having been publisher of Zymurgy (the magazine for homebrewers), The New Brewer (the magazine for small professional craft brewers), writing and technical editing.

He has traveled extensively throughout the world to lecture and meet both professional and amateur brewers. He has given presentations to numerous groups including National Restaurant Show, The Japan Microbrewers Association, Brewtec 95, The Great American Beer Festival etc.

He is author of the best selling books (500,000 plus copies) The New Complete Joy of Home Brewing (Avon Books, 1984, 1991) and The Home Brewer's Companion (Avon Books, 1994) and is a member of the Master Brewers Association of the Americas and the American Society of Brewing Chemists.

He graduated from the University of Virginia in 1972 with a bachelor's of science degree in nuclear engineering and initiated work with the Association of Brewers in1978. He began brewing in1970 and continues to actively brew lagers, ales and honey meads.
