WHERE I LIVE.... USUALLY....

I 'm Italian and I live in GENOVA that is a quite big city situed in the North of Italy, just on the see.

It's quite near to France and is 150 km far from Milano, 200 Km from Firenze and 500 km from Roma.

And my region is called LIGURIA (Italia is consisting of 20 regions).

Liguria is a narrow strip of land, enclosed between the sea and the Alps and the Apennines mountains, it is a winding arched extension from Ventimiglia (almost France) to La Spezia (near to Tuscany) and is one of the smallest regions in Italy. There is not plain, but only mountains, hills, coastline (montainous, flat and rocky) and see...
It is limited in size, but not in the variety of its vegetation and wildlife which is amongst the most diversified and interesting in Italy.
The coast-line, which is geographically divided between the Western Riviera and the Eastern Riviera at the sides of important centre of Genova, from the scenic point of view is characterized by an alternating series of magnificent high coast-lines and flat, sandy coast-lines, whilst in the interior the steep hills meet up with the Apennines peaks.

Liguria has an abundance of natural beauty and the various names given to it such as "Paradise Gulf", "Siren bay", "Bay of silence", "Bay of fairy tales", "Sea's echo" are all a testimony to the magnificent beauty of these marine landscapes. It's full of nice and old towns on the see, but the strange thing is that these towns are on the see, but also on muntains...

My city, Genova, is the main Italian port and one of the biggest in Europe, born around the VII b.C. full of medieval, romanic and gotic buildings and churches, it's famous for its Lanterna (lighthouse)

City with 700.000 inhabitants, it's incredible fot the weather (It's in Italy and on the see, so you can imagine....), and for the food (this, you can't even imagine it....) And in the Summer Genova and its coast are full of tourists...

In the world, Genova is famous for the G8... Cristoforo Colombo (who discovered the New World), the 2nd biggest aquarium in Europe, for the biggest cemetery in Europe and the biggest, particular and expensive old town center, with its "vicoli" (alleys) , very very small streets with slopes and downhill...
In the picture
above, Vicoli are all around at the bottom of the port. (Where you can't distinguish one building from another...)

The Vicoli are very nice during the day (there are not cars there) but especially during the night, better on friday night because they are full of old, nice and characteristic bars (pubs) where people take drinks to drink inside, even if the most of people, in the street... And it's so full of young people that sometimes you can't walk...
Below, some pictures of some pubs in the Vicoli... This is only an exemple because the pubs are really a lot... And every one is made following a main theme....
So, in this way every one is totally different from another

But in the summer the Vicoli are not so full of people because, with the warm, all the pubs, discos and clubs on the see open, with some discoteques or pubs just on the beach...

If you were born here, you can't not to love it... It's in your blood...

But there is not only this... There is all the Riviera (coast) and every town has got something of typical and pretty...
Otherwise, as an alternative to a morning spent on the beach there is the possibility of taking a trip into the hills, that are within easy reach as they sweep right down to the coast.
There are numerous small villages, which often boast ruined castles that bear testimony to former glories of noble families, they are strewn arount the interland, and provide a peaceful authentic setting away from the crowds, amongst the friendly hard-working local people.
The ring of hills, lying immediately beyond the coast, together with the beneficial influx of the sea, account for the mild climate the whole year round (with average winter temperatures of 7-10° and summer temperatures of 25-28°) which makes for a pleasant stay even in the heart of winter.

Genova has got two main football teams: Genoa and Sampdoria (my team, in the first division)

More or less, there are two kind of landscape: one, the coast with its sea, the beach, the rock and its cities, the second the hinterland with its hills, the green, the woods, and the towns to fit between mountains and rivers...

If you want to find only a word to describe Genova and the Liguria you can say "magic" because here all is poetry...

Obviously, all the people that I've known are invited in my house...
