Native American: The indigenous people of the Americas, including Hawaii and US Samoa. The term American Indian and Eskimo Indian are also used.

Indian: used among Native Americans to identify with each other; when used by outsiders it is an offensive term repeating the mistake Columbus made in calling indigenous peoples of the Americas "Ïndian"
