Audiotool 1.1 Ping Pong is online

The new version of Audiotool is up and running! It provides you with the option to download yours and other peoples tracks as MP3 or as Vorbis(OGG). You can also embed your tracks on websites or blogs with the new embed player. This update also makes it possible for you to upload images or take webcam snapshots to use as covers for your tracks.

For this version the distinction between private and public tracks has been removed. Now there are drafts and published tracks. Drafts are arrangements you can work on privately without anybody being able to see them until they have been published. A published track is accessible to your audience and can be shared, linked and embedded. Your draft will be kept after you have published your track so you can make changes and create a new version of the track without destroying the original.

Another new feature is the use of templates. Under File/Save As Template you are able to save your Audiotool arrangement as a template. You can also save a template as public so that other users as well as yourself can open it and use it as a springboard to create new tracks. You can only make templates from arrangements that have not yet been published.

Please read carefully

All tracks from the old version are present in the new version. All private tracks (and public tracks without mixdowns) from the old version have been converted to drafts.

To really experience the benefits of the new version your older tracks should be published, only when your older tracks have been published again will you be able to download the tracks and give them covers.

What is important is that you open your old tracks from the drafts section to publish them and not from the tracks section since published tracks can only be remixed, not modified.

So if you want to add a cool new cover to your old track and be able to download it you just need to go to your drafts section and open the track’s corresponding draft and publish it again.

A video tutorial about the new document handling will be coming soon.

Besides the new handling of tracks we have managed to improve the overall performance of the site and the tool.

We have also setup a wiki page  which will eventually provide documentation for all Audiotool features, tips and tricks.

Enjoy!
