Air Track

Read these general instructions first, then collect the specific data requested in the lab report. If you want a paper copy of the directions, use the Print Version button.

To run a simulation, select one of the scenarios for the two carts (for example, "m1 = m2 inelastic") in the menu and click Go. You will see the current velocities of the carts. Click Stop at any time to pause the simulation. Clicking Go will restart it at that point.

• You can also change the initial velocities and masses of the carts in the appropriate fields at the top.

• Click Reset to return the simulation to its initial condition.

• You can change a, a measure of the elasticity of a collision using the set a button. An a value of 1.0 indicates an elastic collision, in which no kinetic energy is lost. An a value of 0.0 is a perfectly inelastic collision, in which the two colliding objects stick together after colliding.
