Central neurologic diseases and damages involve such a variety of motor disorders, and the pharmacological treatment of some of them, such secondary effects, which leads to the search of alternative therapies which are able to integrate in a natural and balanced way the function of damaging neuronal systems.
BACKGROUND
Motor and cognitive difficulties of determinate central neurological diseases and damages, are susceptible to be counteract by practising movement rhythmic schemes with a suitable musical support. This phenomenon of motor and cognitive integration, has got an importance both practical and theoretical. Practical, because the music produces a psychomotor and cognitive inducement which if it is utilized in an appropiate way favoures rehabilitation. Theoretical, because theoretically the motor disorders are the reflex of neuronal damages, and if music is able to influence over these disorders, it means that phenomenons of compensatory functional plasticity occurs. (Others healthy brain areas do the function of that damaged areas which have lost it).
As a result of hers investigations in this field, Dr. Tubía has developed a musictherapy programme for movement and cognitive disorders typical of:
- Parkinson and parkinsonisms.
- Cerebro-vascular accidents (CVA).
- Traumatic brain injury.
- Chorea, dystonia, cerebral paralysis.
Tubía Method of rehabilitation of the movement is based on rhythmic exercises of progressive complexity. They are performed over the bases of a selected musical repertory because of its psychomotor inducement.
