AMTS11 Mold Texturing

11.1  If the part is to have a textured finish, the cost of texturing will be quoted separately from the construction of the tool. It is recognized that the aesthetics of texturing is highly judgmental. Because of this, the tooling source can only be held liable for the accuracy of the placement and depth of the texture, not the final "looks" of the textured part.

11.2  The aesthetics of texture can vary significantly, depending on their processing technology, material molded, and the process conditions. If the customer is dissatisfied with the final "look" of the part after the texture has been applied. It is the responsibility of the customer to bear all costs for retexturing and the additional tryouts until they achieve a satisfactory finish.

11.3  When possible, the texture is to be specified from a test plaque supplied by the texturing source.

11.4  The cavity is to be sent to the texturing facility. This sample, will be sent to the customer for approval. It is recognized that some cavity materials do not lend themselves to etching or etch unevenly. If the test sample shows a problem in even texturing, they should immediately replace the cavity material before cavity construction occurs. The replacement metal should be re-tested until it’s acceptability for texturing has been displayed.

11.5  The supplier is only liable for the quality of the texturing to the same level. The texturing subcontractor is liable. When the part is viewed in user position, under user lighting conditions, next to the master and determined to be essentially similar within ten seconds; the texture is to be considered approved. If the customer is dissatisfied with the "look" of the textured part, the supplier will only be liable for retexturing if the  texturing depth, peak count, and other measurable characteristics are not to the texture specifications. The customer is liable for the specification of the texturing. Approving the test texture and providing of texture samples to the supplier.
