The grubs of Laccifer Lac, after having colonized as parasitic some specific host plants (Palace, Ber, Gonts, Saman, etc.) begin to feed on the lymph sucked from the most tender buds.
When weather conditions become very hot and muggy, the grubs begin to produce a resinous secretion having a thickness between three and ten millimetres to protect themselves from eventual climatic changes.
From this resinous secretion, by a very old process, shellac is extracted.
