Missing - Damaged Baggage
- If items of checked-in baggage are missing or damaged, the passenger needs to report it at the final destination. This should not be reported midway in a journey.
- This report is always done by the final carrier. It does not matter who your first carrier was unless the passenger was re-routed by a carrier during their journey.
- Please advise passengers to make any reports before leaving the airport at their final destination.
Making a Property Irregularity Report (PIR)
The PIR is filled out by the staff at the final destination airport. The information is logged into the World Tracer System to track the baggage/s.
If after 24 – 48 hrs the bag has not been found, the passenger may be asked for more information.
Information the passenger should provide at the time of the report is:
- Full name
- Permanent address
- Temporary address – where they are staying
- Contact telephone numbers
- Tag numbers from when the bags were checked in – these are very important.
- Names the bags were checked in under. Sometimes bags are pooled and/or another person’s name may be on the bag tag
- Type of Case /Bag/Item etc – the baggage office has pictures for passengers to choose from as this is coded for the system
- Color/Brand
- Any distinguishing features
- Any personal tags on the bag or any old tags (previous address and tag not amended) or someone else’s tag (they borrowed the bag
Damage/pilfered report (DPR)
If the bag is damaged or items are pilfered, damaged or missing, a DPR is made. The DPR should be done at the airport on arrival, if possible.
