Finding or the Right Restaurant Name is a Tall Order!

Restaurant Naming | Finding the Right Restaurant Name is a Tall Order!

Ultimately, successful restaurants come down to great food and service.  But, an instantaneously recognizable name can sure bump your business to the next level.

We’ve Made Restaurant Name Much, Much Easier!

Shakespeare once said “What’s in a name? That which we call a rose, by any other name would smell as sweet.” Well dear old Mr. Shakespeare has been dead for 395 years now and have things changed.

While, ultimately a successful restaurant comes down to great food and amazing service an instantaneously recognizable name can sure bump your business to the next level.  With that in mind, the Brandings Team has developed the Restaurant Name Generator.

There are many different ways to create a catchy restaurant names but they take time and effort.  And, just because you’ve developed a name for your restaurant does not mean that, that name will be available in the exact match dot-com domain.

One benefit of the Name for a Restaurant Generator is, that all 250 restaurant names come with the exact match dot-com domain name.

The first tip for developing a name for your restaurant is perhaps the obvious, name it after the owner or the chef.  There are hundreds of restaurants that have done just that, and named the restaurant after their owner.

One of my personal favorites which comes to mind is Ruth’s Chris Steak House, founded by Ruth Fertel.  This interesting restaurant name came when Ms. Fertel purchased Chris’ Steak house and hence Ruths’ Chris’ Steakhouse was born.

Thinking about restaurants named after the Chef (and possibly owner) there are hundreds and hundreds.  Some of our favorites are Bourdain’s, Daniell’s and Chef Boyardee (ok just kidding on the last one!).

Available Names for a Restaurant or Food Product:

This is a quick, and catchy way to name a restaurant particularly if you’re already a celebrity Chef or famous.  Where does that leave the rest of us?  This method is not without it’s pitfalls.  For example, what if something should happen to that person, be it death, scandal or just really fall out of favor?  This may leave your restaurant may be in real trouble.

Second tip for naming your restaurant is consider naming it after your specialty or type of food you server. Think “Lobster Pot” if you are famous for your lobster or seafood in general. Naming your restaurant after a regional specific area “Cajun Sky” if you specialize in Cajun food might be a way to go.

Third tip for naming your restaurant is to consider where you’re going to be located.  For example, if you’re going to open a cool line of restaurants near college campuses or focusing on college students, some thing like Campus Bistro might be the name for you.

Now don’t forget imaginative or generally catchy restaurant names. Suzy’s is cute and there doesn’t even need to be a Suzy.  How about “Corner Bistro” or “Down the Road Cafe?”

At the end of the day, a catchy or interesting name for your restaurant is one that is meaningful to you.  This “kind” of name will catch the eye of your potential customers.  You want your restaurant name to peak someone’s interest and you need it to be easily communicated and easily remembered.

Recently we’ve come across a very hilarious list of restaurant names that grab attention.  While some of them might be too risky for our taste, it’s a funny read non-the-less.  If you want to check this list on the Delish website, just follow the link, don’t say you haven’t been warned.

Lastly, if you’ve seen any clever and attention getting restaurant names, please post a link or image below, we’d love to see them!

    • Hey Darlene, thanks for the comment but this blog is really dedicated not to earning money but on helping people find the best names for their business or products. This particular blog post you’re commenting on is specifically dedicated to naming a restaurant and helping people find available names for their new restaurant.

We think that opening and running a restaurant may just be one of the hardest businesses of all and on top of hiring, buying perishable food and dealing with customers you have to find a catchy and available restaurant name. You want your name to catch and stand out but there are so many hang ups with food you have to careful and that’s what this blog is about.

So thank you for the comment and thank you for thinking about us but we’re just going to keep on preaching about how important your business name is and helping people get the best name for their business be it a restaurant or something else entirely.

Thanks for thinking about us and best of luck to you though!

    • Hi Susan and Steve, There are huge copyright issues for using a song or band name as an item you’re looking to sell. I would be really careful to avoid such an issue. The most famous restaurant involving a song is probably “Cheeseburger in Paradise” but Jimmy Buffett’s company Margaritaville Holdings LLC, has leased the name to the company, thereby allowing them to use the name.

We understand the appeal and the desire of choosing a famous song or band name to represent your product but there are just too many other good alternatives. Please let us know if we can help you name your restaurant or product. Best of luck to you.

Unless you have clearly expressed permission

    • Thanks for the comment. There’s a lot of different thoughts that go into naming your restaurant. As with all with all business names you need to tell the world what kind restaurant you want to be and tout what it is that you do better or why someone should choose your restaurant over the other down the road.

Think, is your restaurant open 24 hours, do you specialize in a specific food, like seafood, meats, or region of the world? Do you cook on an open grill, bake in a stone oven or even have the quickest food in town? Think about why people should choose you.

Have a look at restaurant name ideas, names for a pub, food company name ideas, and you can check them all out under our general food business name ideas. Be sure to check out a few different categories as you never know what name is really going to jump out at you as the “it” restaurant name.

Good luck and please let us know if you would like more help naming your restaurant, we always have custom company naming available.

    • Thanks for the comment, glad to hear that you’ve found our blog helpful. Your restaurant looks wonderful and hopefully one day the Brandings staff will be able to make it. I’m assuming that O’Brien is a family name and that’s great particularly if you’ve had this restaurant for a while and you have great brand equity built around the name.

Here’s where your name may cause trouble, it’s going to be very difficult to differentiate yourself from other Irish pubs and restaurants. Being of Irish decent and growing up in New York there are quite a few Irish pubs with similar names, how are you to stand out? Perhaps a slight variation on your name like “O B Pub” or something similar.

Thanks again for the comment and please let us know if there is anything else that we can do to help you with the re-branding process. In the meanwhile if you want to take a look at some the available restaurant names in our inventory for some inspiration.
