Birdhouse is an iPhone application created by Adam Lisagor and Cameron Hunt. This blog documents the ongoing progress of Birdhouse.

Birdhouse is a wonderful “notepad for Twitter”, but I’ve included it in this screenshot mainly because Adam Lisagor is a sensitive young man and I know his feelings would be damaged if it weren’t there.

John Gruber on why he keeps Birdhouse in his Homescreen, for his entry in the excellent First & 20 (where Birdhouse is kicking face on the leaderboard).

It’s rare to see such unabashed, gushing praise from the normally reserved Grubes. I think someone’s got empty nest syndrome!

Thanks, Nick. Congratulations on your book. It’s a real fun read which everyone should buy.

Birdhouse gets 4 mice up in Macworld

Unfortunately, an editorial oversight led them to print “You can’t post directly from Birdhouse”, which is completely and entirely 100% wrong in every way. That is, the one purpose the app most definitely serves—that of the ability to save and post to Twitter—has been reported incorrectly. (Way to go, Macworld editors!) But we’ve been in touch and they have promised to print a correction as soon as possible. (Thanks, Macworld!)

UPDATE: As @tj points out on Fun Size Bytes, the error should in no way be attributed to Lex Friedman, who wrote the original online review (and an excellent one at that). TJ did the forensics and has correctly come to this conclusion:

So it appears some anonymous copyeditor for the print version mangled this, probably misunderstanding this sentence from the original article:

[Birdhouse is] meant to be used in tandem with your “regular” Twitter client, since Birdhouse can only be used to write posts, not read them. No, I’m not joking.

Thank you, TJ. Thank you, Lex.

Analog Birdhouse 1.0 Super Mega-Beta (Field Notes Version)

This is my Birdhouse. There are aren’t many like it, but this one is mine.

My first app, from concept to completion in 45 minutes.

This may be one of our favorite things.

How one iPhone app changed everything.

Skyward

It just so happens our users are incredible and make nice things because they are creative, charming, thoughtful, handsome and above all else, they are nice people.

Thank you, Geoff and everyone who helped make this wonderful thing.

Appbank review, translated from the Japanese

Japanese iPhone App review site Appbank gave Birdhouse what we think may be a glowing review, judging purely by the screenshots they’ve chosen and Google’s very rough translation:

  • To a murmur KEDOMO witty short.
  • To sleep one night to a murmur.
  • Across the series of articles to a murmur.
  • Polo prevention and unconsciously murmured Limited.
  • You do not have to save the murmur public good now.
  • Tweet with too much too, want to murmur prudent people need air.
  • Twitter murmur in the air do not want seem like addiction, reduce withdrawal symptoms.
  • Murmur management of multiple accounts.

How I’m Sure Birdhouse Is Worth $4

A succinct review from Rod Knowlton of Told or Known:

I use it just as much while sitting at my Mac as anywhere else.

Birdhouse, because the fewer the words, the more I want to be sure they’re the right ones.
