Making printing disappear when viewed through red filter

I've been given one of those "projects" that's been in the shop for over 6 months. It's a greeting card with a message on the front and when red mylar/red transparency is placed over it some of the words disappear. A number of printing tests have been done on this already and nothing's worked 100%.

I found something online that describes exactly what I'm doing and a few different methods to make it work.

http://www.paper-paper.com/interactivearticle.html
(scroll down to the "FILTERING COLORS – HIDDEN IMAGES" section, the pie chart example is sort of what I'm trying to accomplish)

If you have a piece of red mylar handy, hold it up to the examples on screen and you'll see how it works.

In experimenting with the "Red Filter Complementary "Drop Out" Colors: Magenta – Orange – Pink – Red – Yellow

Yellow on white or white on yellow seems to be working, so does 20% magenta on white. I haven't figured out yet what "orange" or "red" are (which Pantone colors).

Has anyone done a funky project like this? Any suggestions or methods you used?

Best bet, contact Gordon Pritchard (affectionately known as Gordo) over on Printplanet.

They have nicknames over there?

I'm not welcome at Printplanet.

How will I laugh tomorrow...
when I can't even smile today?

I tried it and a piece of ruby really does make the yellow pie wedge go away almost completely.
I remember this effect from a long time ago, I think it was a freebie in a kid's cereal box and was like a secret decoder toy.
I remember the plastic decoder being yellow, not red. A yellow plastic might make magenta/red disappear?

This is also the way the Password board game worked. And the Clue VCR game from the '80s, but I'll be really surprised if anyone remembers that one.

Early transformers boxes had a graph or something on the back that used a red filter.

We had that password game growing up. I don't remember that version of the Clue game though.

The other side can point out their inaccuracies, but the voter's mind privileges the memory of the original accusation, which was juicier than any counterargument ever could be.)"

Do you? I bought one off of Ebay several years ago and transferred it all to DVD, so there's not all that rewinding & fast forwarding to deal with during a game. Did you ever see Clue 2? WAY more difficult than the first one.

Here's something about the first one:

Now THAT brings back some memories. As soon as I saw the characters on the left... hahahahaha, no, I never got Clue 2. I was pretty young from what I can remember. I barely remember the first one.

Sometimes, maybe ... there were six levels of difficulty, and six different games in each, for a total of 36 murderers, weapons & locations. The link I posted was way too critical of the game ... it was a blast, and worth having for the 60-minute movie. Gnubler, if you love shitty movies, this is one for you!
