Dr. Sara Russell received the second annual Bernard Lown Award for Excellence in Teaching at Brigham and Women's Hospital. A graduate of Tufts and Columbia Universities, Dr. Russell is the Surgical Director of Cutaneous Oncology and Melanoma at the Dana Farber and is involved in various teaching and mentorship activities with third and fourth year medical students.


A portrait of Dr. Lown - painted by Stephen Coit - was unveiled at the Lown Scholars Program and Lown Visiting Professorship launch event on November 5, 2010 at the Harvard School of Public Health. The portrait was presented to Dean Frenk by Dr. Vikas Saini and Nassib Chamoun, Chairman of the Lown Foundation's Board of Directors.


The Bernard Lown Award for Excellence in Teaching at Brigham and Women's Hospital was established in January 2010 to celebrate physicians who are outstanding clinical teachers. The award will be given annually at the Harvard Medical School Teaching Awards Celebration. Awardees are selected based on nominations from their students and colleagues.


Dr. Lown hosted the first in a series of lectures via Skype on January 28, 2010. The "Ariel Conversation" took place with young International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War (IPPNW) activists in Agra, India.


Prescription for Survival was selected as a finalist for the ForeWord Magazine 2008 Book of the Year Award in the Autobiography/Memoir category. ForeWord Magazine honors the best independently published titles of the year.


Dr. Lown and his memoir, Prescription for Survival, were featured in a January 4th article in the Brookline Tab by Steve Bagley. You can read the article online.


Prescription for Survival was reviewed by Dr. Mubashir Hasan in DAWN, Pakistan's leading English newspaper.


Dr. Lown and the Bernard Lown Peace Bridge ceremony were featured on the front page of the Twin City Times on October 23, 2008. In addition, Dr. Lown's speech at the event was published in the "Mayor's Corner" section of the newspaper as requested by Mayor Laurent F. Gilbert.


Dr. Lown's book, Prescription for Survival, was reviewed by Thomas B. Newman, MD, MPh, in a New England Journal of Medicine article on October 23, 2008.

Dr. Lown and the newly established Harvard School of Public Health Lown scholars program and professorship were featured in an article in the Harvard Gazette on September 18, 2008.
