Candlelight Ranch delivers creative, hands-on educational programs and nature-based activities in a beautiful Texas hill country setting. Partnering with community groups, nonprofits and schools, the Ranch provides interactive learning programs and experiences that are customized to meet the specific needs youth and families served. Summer Interns will learn how to facilitate educational, recreational, and therapeutic nature-based group programs while interacting with a wide range of at-risk youth and children with special needs. With appropriate training and supervision, Interns will participate in and facilitate the low/high challenge course (including 3 ziplines!), waterfront program (canoeing, kayaking, and fishing on Lake Travis), equine program, archery, nature hikes (explore the natural wonders of the property and learn about edible and medicinal plants of Central Texas), nature art, and nature therapy & education. As part of the University of Georgia's Cooperative Extension Service and Georgia 4-H, the Burton 4-H Center on Tybee Island provides high-quality environmental education classes to overnight and day groups. The majority of classes are taught outside covering material from ecology of the beach, maritime forest and salt marsh to herpetology, invertebrates, dissections and more. Experience the North Carolina coast and provide amazing outdoor education experiences for youth! Don Lee Camp & Retreat Center hosts the Coastal Communities residential environmental education program focusing on hands-on experiences in coastal ecology, marine sciences and natural history as well as the Common Ground challenge course designed to build community and encourage teamwork. Environmental Educators will teach a variety of outdoor exploration programs and activities—from ocean study and chart navigation to fishing, sailing and caring for captive animals. Educators will also double as Challenge Course Facilitators, providing team building, problem-solving and experiential learning. 2024 positions are available during the spring (late February to early June with a summer camp option) and fall season (early September to mid-November). Compensation includes a salary of $425/week (Interns earn $250/week), shared rooms in staff housing, all meals prepared by dining hall staff and WiFi access. Located in the beautiful mountains of western North Carolina, Mountain Trail Outdoor School is a residential environmental education program serving students (typically in the 5th-8th grade) from both public and private schools from around the southeast. The program uses an experiential education model to teach and inspire youth and adults to care for their natural environment around and cultivate community among their peers. Seeking enthusiastic Instructors who enjoy working with youth and have a desire to teach in an outdoor setting. Responsibilities include teaching outdoor environment classes (ranging from a science curriculum that meets state standards to team building exercises and adventure-based programming), developing curricula and resources for the program, assisting in the maintenance and upkeep of campus teaching, habitat, and resource storage areas, completing projects assigned by faculty supervisors, and actively participating in the broader Kanuga community when opportunities arise. Positions are available during the spring (late February to May) and fall (mid-August to November). Compensation includes $350/week (more DOE), onsite room and board, medical/pension for multi-season commitment, a comprehensive two-week paid training period, professional development incentives, and access to 1,400 acres of trails, a 30-acre lake, and Ride Kanuga mountain bike park. Nature's Classroom at Ohio FFA Camp Muskingum offers 2 to 5-day residential programs, day programs and school visits with a custom designed curriculum to meet the needs of each group. Outdoor Education Instructors will be assigned a field group (typically 6th graders) and will lead hands-on, activity-based programming that includes outdoor classes, interpretive nature hikes, night hikes, campfires, and large group games. Instructors also eat meals with their group, lead team building and nature center activities, and work with groups on the high ropes course may be required. Positions are available during the spring (mid-February through the end of May) and the fall (mid-August to mid-November). Compensation starts at $425/week, plus extensive training, housing with private room, meals when students are at camp, optional weekend work for additional pay, and the use of camp equipment during free time. The staff house includes a full kitchen, satellite TV, WiFi access, and laundry facility. Your weekends are free to explore the surrounding area, including proximity to Cuyahoga Valley National Park and other great hiking and outdoor exploration activities. Located on Lake LBJ in the heart of the beautiful Texas Hill Country, The Outdoor School (TOS) is a residential outdoor education program that focuses on hands-on experiential education and outdoor courses primarily for 5th–7th graders. Students can learn about themselves, their natural environment and their peers while participating in fun and educational outdoor activities, facing challenges, overcoming fears, and sparking new ways to see the world. Outdoor Education Instructors teach a pre-approved academic and adventure curriculum (including reptiles, water quality, kayaking, archery, outdoor survival, art in nature, and many more!), facilitate team building and high ropes courses, and lead interesting evening activities (astronomy, night sensory and games/campfire). Three weeks of training will provide you with the necessary knowledge in academics, ropes course, and anything else you need to thrive at TOS. Positions are available during the spring (mid-February through the end of May) and fall (mid-August through the week before Thanksgiving). There is also the opportunity to work multiple seasons, each with additional responsibilities, offering a holistic view of the administration and direction of an outdoor education center. Inspire the next generation of environmental stewards! CYO Camps is a Catholic adventure camping ministry of the Archdiocese of Seattle. Youth and staff are invited into community to live, learn, and grow in the Catholic faith through outdoor adventure and environmental education programming at Camp Hamilton. Environmental Education Teacher Naturalists teach classes on guided hikes, in canoes, and through other experiential programs for students grades 5-6 in a residential environmental camp experience. Staff also help lead morning and evening prayer, campfires, night hikes, skits, and field games as well as demonstrate servant leadership through general camp support (low ropes facilitation, kitchen and facilities clean-up, and more). The days are long, so having high energy and a willingness to jump into any activity is a plus! A Head Cook and Kitchen Staff are also needed to coordinate and implement the camp's food service program. Kitchen staff members will gain valuable, hands-on experience developing culinary skills and learn proper operation of electrical and mechanical equipment within an industrial kitchen. These 6-week positions run from April 15th through May 31st, 2024. A MO-FR work schedule with rotating evening responsibilities allows for several nights off. Do you believe in the power of wild places? Nestled in the heart of Appalachia lies Experience Learning, a 400-acre high preserve located just below the base of the highest mountain in West Virginia — Spruce Knob. With minimal trail systems and a million acres of the Monongahela National Forest, Instructors will lead participants on adventures they never knew possible. Experience Learning programs serve students in the 5th–12th grades, and include both residential and wilderness field courses based out of the Spruce Knob Mountain Center campus. Facilitating beyond the classroom wilderness learning programs, Outdoor Field Instructors help students gain the confidence, experience, and appreciation for our natural world through lessons and activities that include hiking, backpacking, camp craft, orienteering, caving, environmental education, rock climbing, canoeing, and survival skills. In addition, Instructors tailor courses to meet the thematic goals for each school served, leading students in discussions and initiatives around leadership, communication, environmental stewardship, teamwork, and creative problem solving. Instructors have the opportunity to work seasonally (spring, summer and/or fall) or for a full 7½ months (March 25th to November 1st, 2024). Pay ranges from $65-$115/day DOE, shared housing, meals during programming, access to pro deals, 1 day of paid health leave/month, and opportunities for organizational advancement.
