I think I am going to get the vision kamado grill at costco. do you guys have any opinion on where the heat deflector should be when smoking, the vision kamado has theres on the very top and your food actualy sits on it.

thanks guys

Hi bmmat, I just bought this grill a couple of months ago. Mine came with no heat deflector. Can you elaborate? I am looking at an accessory made by Grill Dome called an Indirect Grate. It is a 13" grate with three legs on it that will rest on the top of your fire box, and the grill will drop about 4" below the fire box. You can then take a pizza stone, or some other 13" ceramic or forged iron plate and place it on the grate. you could also use it to sear steaks close to the coals.

I've seen this grill at Costco myself, it looks well put together. I would say any method/accessory that's good for the BGE would work with this grill, so long as they are the same size inside.

I just bought one a couple weeks ago from Costco here in Canada, I called the guys at Vision and they sell a volcanic grill stone that you place on the bottom cooking grate for using the kamado as a smoker. You can place your food on the top cooking grate or directly on the stone. No one carries it here in Canada yet, but I know if you go to Home Depot down in the U.S. or homedepot.com they have the Vision grill stone. For now I'm going to have to try using a 13"/14" baking stone for indirect cooking.

That stone may be all you need. There are also other 3rd party tools/setups you can use so that your heat deflector/diffuser sits below your main grate.
