Summary: New grille & wheels for F-150, New Limited trim level, available HID headlights, few color changes.

2013 F-150

The 2012 F-150 only saw minor improvments over the heavily updated 2011 F150. The 2013 F-150 is not a major update, but rather, again it includes a number of enhancements that make the top-selling half-ton truck even better. The updates for '13 is all about style and features.

Likely the most noticeable upgrade on the new F-150 are the new grilles. We know for sure that the XLT & Lariat models received updated grilles. The XLT's grille is inspired by the Super Duty grille.

Now available for the first time on the F-150 is HID or High Intesity Discharge projector headlamps. HID headlamps improve visibility through better lighting, and these new headlamps give the F-150 a more stylish look compared with regular halogen lamps. Here is a shot of a 2013 Lariat F-150 with the HID headlamps:

There is a new Limited trim level for 2013, which gives "Limited" lettering along the box side and some large wheels. The Harley-Davidson branded F-150 was dropped after 2012 so was no longer available.

There are three new colors: Blue Jeans Metallic, Ruby Red Clearcoat Metallic, and Kodiak Brown Metallic. The Kodiak Brown is a very dark color which in some lights can even look black. The Ruby Red is a very bright bold red that looks great.

In addition to the colors, there are new 18" and 20" wheel options in the various trim levels. We know many current F-150 owners will be pleased to hear that power-telescoping and power-folding trailer tow mirrors are now available, which helps fit the F-150 into tigher garages for one :-)

Inside, the updated F-150 receives a few updates in the technology area. There is an available new 4.2" center-stack mounted LCD screen that pairs with SYNC to provide more information than the previous 2-line display.

Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum and Limited series models are equipped with MyFord Touch, adding voice control to more vehicle systems along with a new 8" LCD touchscreen in the center stack. This package adds a media hub with two USB ports, an SD card reader and audio/video input jacks. An integrated navigation system is optional.

The same four engines that were available in 2011 and 2012 are in the 2013 F-150. The 3.7L V6 is rated at 302hp, the 5.0L V8 is rated at 360hp, the 6.2L V8 is rated at 411hp, and the 3.5L V6 EcoBoost is rated at 365hp.

"The 2013 Ford F-150 adds more style and technology that sets a benchmark for capability and efficiency in light-duty pickups," said F-150 Marketing Manager Raj Sarkar. "We continue to focus on the no-compromise solution for our customers, giving them all of the conveniences and technologies they want with the capability they need and the fuel efficiency to go further."
