This is very weird, I've never seen anything like this in SDSS. You should try to bring the expert's attention here, Edd or one of the Zookeepers for example.

As serpens mentioned it would be worth getting an expert opinion. I haven't seen any gas that shows up with quite that blue colour. (unfortunately there is no spectra associated with it).

Erm. Well, my best guess, and the best guess of someone else I pulled in from the next office, is either some irregular galaxy or a nebula, but it is a weird colour - unexpectedly faint in r. I'll give zookeepers another poke towards it.

edit: coming back to this post after a long time just as I thought it was worth mentioning that the 'someone else I pulled in' is now around here under the name of 'bamford' :)

Weird. Looks like a camera defect to me since it only appears in one filter....

i suppose it is truly deserving to be placed in the weird and wonderful category... :)
The question is not how far.  The question is... do you possess the constitution, the depth of faith, to go as far is as needed...

It has to start someplace, it has to start sometime.  What better place than here, what better time than now?

uiz image here (rather than gri). I think there's a maybe a detection in the blue (u) and definitely part of it in the i (green), so I'm not convinced it's something in the g only. I may be imagining it though :)

SDSS sees in five colours (u,g,r,i and z) and computer monitors only do red, green and blue. The usual images make g blue, r green and i blue, but I switched some round to see the u and z instead, making u blue, i green and z red. The weird thing about this object is that the detection was pretty much only in the g band, rendered blue in your original image, but I thought there might be more hints in the others - and I think you can see a faint blue triangle there.

So I suspect it's real, but I don't really have a good idea what it actually is.
