Marco Di Maggio is an excellent guitar player with several stage experiences begun at the age of 13 with different local bands in Florence, Italy. His brilliant musical background covers many styles ranging from Rockabilly, Western Swing, Country Fingerstyle, Surf, Blues, Rock, Rock'n'Roll. In 1990 he started playing professionally in all the major clubs and open spaces all over Italy, and also abroad. 1995 In 1995, during the British tour, he formed a band called The Italian Lovegods with Terry Williams (Dire Straits Drummer) and Martin Ace (Man) arcing London, Pontypridd, Croydon, Bristol, Sweansea and appearing a couple of times on Welsh Television. He has also appeared on the national Italian TV shows, Roxy Bar (Videomusic), Help (TMC2), RAI 2 and RAI 3. In the same year, 1995, his first CD came out - Eddie And The Houserockers - titled Tele Rock And Roll, distributed by Rockhouse Records. In 1996 he toured all over Italy with The Italian Lovegods.
1997 In 1997, he was asked by Giovanni Unterberger, to give guitar lessons in different locations and school seminars (see page: Stages) for Lizard (one of the most important Italian guitar academies). His expertise on the guitar resulted filming a teaching video concerning Rockabilly guitar techniques, La Chitarra Elettrica Rockabilly (Rockabilly Electric Guitar). On this video he shows how to play the styles of: Scotty Moore, Paul Burlison, Cliff Gallup,Chet Atkins, Eddie Cochran and many others.
1998 In 1998,with the Di Maggio Bros., he recorded a second CD, Rockabilly From The Boots Up, produced by the Rockabilly Hall Of Fame of USA. Bob Timmers, President of the Hall Of Fame, said about them: "The more pure refreshing rockabilly band I've heard from long time". The album immediately had great reviews from the American press. They also collaborated with the German label Vhampire, completing the European version of Rockabilly From The Boots Up, and a new MARCO DI MAGGIO solo album titled Thank You Eddie, (The Tribute to Eddie Cochran). 1999 In 1999, thanks to his experience in Rockabilly Music, his name is included as honorary member in the "ROCKABILLY HALL OF FAME OF USA". Check out his page on their web site at: www.rockabillyhall.com/marcodimag.html. Marco's first US tour occurred in 1999 where played with the international country & rockabilly artist Narvel Felts. In October 1999 he played his third British tour, rocking London (Tennessee Club) and the "5th Eddie Cochran Weekend" (Chippenham) where he was also interviewed on BBC radio. In the same month he starts to write monthly for the popular italian magazine "Guitar Club". He was the only European soloist artist invited to play at the "The Opening Of The Jackson Rockabilly Museum", in Tennessee, in April 2000. He performed on on the same stage as:The Jordanaires, Bill's Haley Comets, Gene Vincent's Blue Caps, Paul Burlison, Dj Fontana, Glen Glenn, Gary Lambert, Narvel Felts and many more. He performed at "Viva Las Vegas 2000" with Kevin Smith (Highnoon) and Dickie Harrel (Gene Vincent's Blue Caps).
2000 After touring for the summer 2000 he released a album Superpicking where he played all instruments (Guitar, Piano, Double Bass, Drums, Banjo & Vocals), with just a little help on a few tracks by Matteo Giannetti and Blasco Mirabella. In the same year he starts to collaborate with the italian tv writin' songs for a lot of famous spots (Honda scooter, Santal juices, TIM). In September 2000, with his Rockabilly Trio, he perform again at the 6th Eddie Cochran Weekend, U.K.
2001 On March 3rd 2001 he was on stage at the Rockabilly Rave "Guitar Forum". He is preparing to record his second Teaching Video with the German label Vampirella and a book by him titled Rockabilly Electric Guitar will be issued soon. In this year,Marco starts to perform with his new project "Marco Di Maggio & the Supersonic Orchestra", a shakin',swingin'n'stompin' 7 pieces combo, influenced by the hottest stuff from the 40's and the 50's. In April he was the only european artist invited to perform at the legendary "Grand Ole Opry / Ryman Auditorium" in Nashville, Tennessee, on the same bill as: Brenda Lee, The Jordanaires and many others country and rockabilly stars. In this occasion, Marco performed as "honorary Blue Cap" featuring D.J. Fontana on drums and Bill Mack (Gene Vincent's Blue Caps) on bass. One week later he come back to Las Vegas to join the Rockabilly Hall of Fame Stage, during Viva Las Vegas 2001. At this time he plays his guitar for Kay Wheeler, Paul Burlison, Rocky Burnette, Gary Lambert and the great Billy Swan. Back in Europe, he continued touring with his Trio. In september Marco has been elected as italian director for the italian office of the Rockabilly Hall of Fame (www.rockabillyhall.it). In a good rockin' tradition, Marco introduced his nephew Simone Di Maggio into the Rockabilly scene. In fact, after just three months of live shows, this fella (15 years "young") realizes his first album "Everybody's Movin'" for the german label "Vampirella Music", issued on December 2001. During December 2001, came out the second album by the Di Maggio Bros., titled "At Full Speed". With this release, the international press classified the trio as one of the contemporary outfits on Rockabilly scene. 2002 Meanwhile, Marco tourned all over Europe, rockin' France, Switzerland, Holland, Uk and with his trio, he perform at "Bormio Guitar" (I), where he share the stage with some 6 strings legends as Tom Bresh (Merle Travis' son) and Pete Huttlinger (John Denver band). In March, the Rockabilly trio tour Switzerland and starts a collaboration with the great Robert Gordon. In July 2002, the Di Maggio Bros. come back in Usa to perform at the event, considered from the press, the Festival of the Century: "The Rockin' 50's Fest", at Oneida Casino - Green Bay - Wisconsin. In October 2002, the Marco Di Maggio Rockabilly Trio has been choose as opening act for Uk's exclusive show of the legendary Scotty Moore. After a 30 days Europe Tour, Marco come back in Florence, where he's starts to record his second tribute to Eddie Cochran: "I remember Eddie...". Photo by Lorenzo Cotrozzi At the same time, Marco continue his didactic activities for Lizard Academy of Fiesole and starts to record 2 new albums: "Acousticat", completely unplugged, where he plays a various set of Rockabilly, Swing, Bluegrass and Blues; A new didactic CD (title to be announced), containing Rockabilly tracks in different styles, a true rockin' method for guitar techniques (how to play the greatest: Chet Atkins, Moore, Gallup, Burlison, Setzer, Maphis..) Coming soon!!!! 2003 In 2003, his trio become the official european band for Mr. Robert Gordon.
In March, the Di Maggio Bros., back in France, where they support Hayden Thompson. In April Marco Di Maggio Trio was asked to perform at Viva Las Vegas 2003 - East Lounge Stage- Gold Coast Casino LV and for a tour in Texas, Nevada and California but, at that time everything has been cancelled. The reason is the guys didn't felt confortable in flyin' during the hardest period of Iraq war. In June, Marco starts the recording of the new cd with the dutch singer Sue Moreno. After an intensive tour in Italy, France and Switzerland, Marco took a break to concentrate on his many new projects/albums. Is not sure that his collaboration with Vampirella Music will continue also in 2004, that's why his new cd's are not avalaible yet..but they will soon! 2004 On Summer 2004, Marco back in studio to begin the recording sessions of his new album "The Wildest Game". The cd, printed in January 2005 with his new band The Di Maggio Connection, includes 16 tracks almost all original, composed by Marco, Francesco Chisci and Volker Houghton.
2005 The style is a mix of Neo Rockabilly/Surf/R'n'R/NeoSwing and it includes the collaboration of Greg (a wellknow italian Tv Entertainer) on track n. 9: "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" Rockabilly version. During Fevruary 2005, was also published the videoclip of the song. On October 2005, after the summer tour with the Di Maggio Connection, the cd "Bye Bye Blues" released with Sue Moreno has been published under the finnish label Jungle Records. In the same time, with the Di Maggio Brothers, Marco back in studio to start the recording of the new album titled "When I Hit My Stride". 2006 On February 2006, The Di Maggio Connection plays in front to a huge audience for the Olympic Games in Turin (Italy). On April 2006 Marco and his band are in tour again with Robert Gordon, first at Chippenham Eddie Cochran Weekend (where they also played with Sue Moreno) and after, back in Italy for the second part of the tour.
