Wow.. I use RAR and it's 56MB (solid, best method), so 7-zip becomes better now? Unfortunatelly half of people don't know what 7-zip is, and I know persons that don't know what to do with RAR, so I stay with standard for official uploads.

I was just pointing it out wink.gif

I understand the use of zip, since "everyone" can unpack a zip smile.gif
I used 7-zip with ultra / LZMA2 compression, and in most cases, 7-zip will compress better than winrar.

I never played Psycho Pinball on the PC so I can't make any comparisons.

But I played a few games on this table and it's obvious to me how much work and dedication went into this thing. Nicely done! I really hope you guys plan on releasing more like this. Impressive! clapping.gif

Thanks everyone!

Wow, I love it. The night dual mode is amazing. The table actually goes from day to night. It's so cool looking.
The sound design is top notch. The dmd is also really, really cool. This table totaly blew my mind. I would definitely
recommend giving it a try.

If you don't care for FP, you still should seriously give this table a try. I've been play-testing it for awhile and it is amazing. I don't see how they made all of those features and rules listed above work in this table, but they did and it's a thing of beauty.

Very nice release, people need to try this table as IMHO it's as good as anything I've seen in a virtual pinball table. Some comments:

Psycho Pinball: Wild West, as pretty much anyone reading this thread is probably aware, is based on an older video pinball game that appeared many years ago on the Sega Genesis and the PC. The original I thought, was not the best representation of computer/console pinball; my preference leaned more towards the Digital Illusions series of pinball games on the Amiga computer; but still it was a fun game and on that basis, led me to have some pretty high expectations; especially coming from the team that made the Billion Dollar Gameshow; a fine addition to any Future Pinball library. This release continues a trend I've seen of late, where one is inspired by an original work, but is not bound by it. This allows near "original" thinking in some of the design decisions that IMHO ends up making the experience fresh. Don't get me wrong, the historical buff in me loves the straight port; but then with this table, I always have an emulator that can help fill that void.

To kick off my review, I need to start a while back; when I was asked to test and provide some ideas on this upcoming release. As I did so, I was able glimpses in the final months of this production a pinball game taking shape and grow leaps and bounds into something that just blew away my expectations, so let's have a closer look into why I feel this is one of the top releases for Future Pinball; nay ANY pinball series of late.

So where do we start? How about the single best attract mode I can recall seeing in a long, long time? Let it go through its conclusion and questions you may have had on any particular rule set will be answered via the great link between the DMD text and the playfield lights that show you exactly how to activate the various modes. Attract modes aren't something that is looked at often; but I tell you, if any guest come over and want to play a pinball table; it allows one to take the guessing out of the equation (and looks cool to boot!). Secondly, it shows just how much spit shine polish this release was given. I'll be trying hard not to overuse the word "polish" in my commentary, but it's going to be hard!

Playfield graphics: Very well done, a great respect was given to the old graphics with a nice HD facelift; but also some nice FP toys put in there to give you that great Future Pinball look. Well done and a nice touch to put in a bit of a video mode on the playfield itself. Certainly adds to the overall experience.

DMD: Well done; used to a nice effect for the service menu; as well as for the playfield/videos mode and just everything else. I can't really recall what the Genesis/MegaDrive version had (the version I played the most) but I don't think I recall this level of variety but I could be wrong. Anyway, if I'm correct, there's a lot of original work that's been put into this. Kudos for including one off the backglass for us poor schmucks who don't have a pincab/second monitor; and nice for these artists to putting it on the backglass for those (hopefully me soon) who do have a pincab.

Backglass: Again, nice graphics, nice implementation of the DMD and provides some good personality to boot. Even a small touch such as the little electrical charges from the bullet holes just makes it more "alive" compared to most light based active translites (nothing wrong with those of course, just nice to see something a little different). Also bonus on providing a DMD style scoring display for each of the players. A great "clean" look to everything.

Playability: All the shots are makeable; the bazillion different modes (something not seen too often in FP tables) really gives this release quite a level of variety that is IMHO really only matched when playing tables such as Bally's Twilight Zone or Stern's Simpson's Pinball Party or others of their ilk. Having this many modes is not for everyone but it certainly is for this guy; as I'll be going back for more on a regular basis. Anyway, great balance in putting in video modes; video intros to playfield modes, etc.

Sound/music: Over 30 music samples; including one awesome tune for the "dual" bonus at the end; none of them gets on my nerves and the variety/quality really adds to the overall excellence of this table. Some good overall sound effects and nice sound queue's for the various modes (such as blackjack, train sounds; the talking portions of the game, etc) finish off a favourable view of this category.

Extras:
High score table: I just wanted to add an extra thanks to the team for making use of the DMD for this feature and for remembering my initials so I don't have to keep entering them. I've no idea if other programmers use this in their tables, I haven't tried every table after all but kudos for them to adding this feature; it just adds yet another level of ... you know smile.gif.
Multi-ball "introduction": yeah, this is the way to let people know you've reached a multi-ball mode. Rock N Roll; lit the fuse and let's go!
Script: Over 11 THOUSAND lines of code. No, that's not indicative of quality, but it does reflect on the amount of work put into this table and into providing a service mode that works as this does. Can this table be buffeted even more? (ouch!...)

Final comments:
This is the point where, having been playing this for a while and becoming emotionally invested in their process, I have to consider that maybe I've subconsciously added some pink tints to my glasses. I don't know, all I can say is, give this a try and come back to this thread and let the authors know what you think. If I'm not off, join me in thanking the team on such a fine release. I'll end this section with me pondering: "can we tell they've been working on this for a year???". My answer: "yep"

Thanks Seb/Jerry/Slash; what a release; it's so... polished (sorry about that smile.gif )

All I can say is THANKS THANKS and THANKS again. Worship.gif
Thanks to "the Loafer" for his "polished" report wink.gif
... and thanks alot to the rest of the community for the nice comments biggrin.gif

To show you my graditude here is a little "Hint" for better achieving "Dodge the Express" and "BonusX" at the Tunnel Kicker:

If the ball comes down too fast from top of the Horseshoe Ramp then do...nothing because it's almost impossible to hit the Tunnel.
If the speed is low or middle then catch the ball with the right flipper and wait until he stands nearly still.
Then shot the ball as late as possible with the peak of the flipper into the Tunnel...it works 99% to me.
The same trick goes also for the left flipper to hit the "GUN" targets.

Jerry, it's very easy to come up with such a review when the game is of this quality. It's the type of effort where IMHO one could say "yeah, I'd have put a few bucks towards buying this" due to the level of... you know. smile.gif It's yet another motivator to get off my butt and get my pincab going.

Thanks for that extensive recommendation. Indeed we are proud of our new release. It was another year of our common work (look it's exactly one year without one day since the BDG was released). I wanted to release that table earlier, but Jerry wanted that table to be polished as much as possible to avoid next fixed version. Meantime new ideas appeared so it extended the time again and again. Finally it was mainly delayed by me, because I became slave of quality of that table.
Thank you Rob for some really important suggestions like backglass shape, horseshoe kicker responsivity or sound details. Your opinion was important to ensure us, we are on correct way.
Thanks for that opinion once more because I believe this words will attract more people, also hard fans of VP only.
We believe that table and other good tables will keep Future Pinball alive and will shut up some mouths saying that Future Pinball is dying. I'm sure not - because we will return with another table (can be even better?).

Jerry
I'm very gratefull for your patience when I wanted to change & improve some things again and again. I hope you can sleep more now because hangman is now completed smile.gif There will be no another update & request tomorrow, I promise smile.gif

Everyone
Please, I don't want to force anyone. But if you like this table, and you wish to show gratitude for this release - give some stars at FPR. We want to beat record of ratings there.
I also wish to ask for your high scores achievements. There are 6 categories, I hope you can play great amounts!

We believe that table and other good tables will keep Future Pinball alive and will shut up some mouths saying that Future Pinball is dying. I'm sure not - because we will return with another table (can be even better?).

Please, I don't want to force anyone. But if you like this table, and you wish to show gratitude for this release - give some stars at FPR. We want to beat record of ratings there.
I also wish to ask for your high scores achievements. There are 6 categories, I hope you can play great amounts!
