Your biking adventure in Acadia awaits…
The famed Carriage Roads of Acadia National Park are a unique and adventurous way to explore Mount Desert Island. Originally constructed for horses and carriages between 1913-1940, the roads are still a popular way to get around Mount Desert Island today. However, the Carriage Roads are not open to any motorized vehicles and are only accessible by bike, horse, and foot traffic, making them an ideal location for bike enthusiasts and first-timers alike.
With a total of 45 miles, there is no shortage of Carriage Road routes to choose from. Upon arrival to our shop, our customer service representatives will answer any questions you may have, suggest some potential route options, and explain how people get to the carriage roads from our location.
About our bikes…
We carry a variety of different bikes in our rental fleet. All of them are either Jamis or Raleigh brand and are full 21-speed hybrid bikes that are well-equipped for riding on the carriage roads and pavement alike! You can reserve a bike ahead of time based on your height. When you arrive to our shop, one of our bike shop employees will fit you to your bike before sending you on your way.
How It Works…
Step 1
–Make a reservation
You can make a reservation here, give us a call at (207) 288-9605, or even stop by our shop and say hello if you’re already in town! Walk-in rentals are also welcome but are dependant on availability.
Step 2
–Plan your route
When you arrive to pick up your bikes, one of our customer service representatives will give you a map and tell you about some potential places you may want to ride. They will also show you how to get to the Carriage Roads from our store.
Step 3
–Pick up your rental
You can pick up your bike reservations anytime from open to close. We are open 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. in May, September, and October and 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. in June, July, and August. When you make a reservation, we hold your bikes for you all day!
Step 4
–Have fun!
Once you have been set up on your bikes and understand the route you want to take, you are set off on your biking adventure. We can’t wait to hear about your bike ride. Be safe and have fun!
