Anthony J. Pinizzotto, PhD President and Founder, CFP Associates, LLC
Dr. Anthony J. Pinizzotto received a BA in English from De Sales University, an MA in forensic psychology from John Jay College of Criminal Justice, an MA in Theology and Pastoral Counseling from De Sales Graduate School of Theology, a PhD in psychology from Georgetown University, a post-doctoral MS in clinical psychopharmacology from Alliant University. He completed a clinical internship at Bellevue Hospital in New York City in Psychiatric Emergency and Evaluation. He was an instructor in the Department of Psychology at Georgetown University where he taught courses in forensic and abnormal psychology. He recently completed a year-long post-doctoral institute on the psychology of trauma at the Maryland Psychological Association/Foundation.
Involved in law enforcement for over 25 years, prior to his entrance on duty with the FBI, he had worked with the Criminal Investigations Division, Training Division, and the Fifth Police District of the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington, DC.
Dr. Pinizzotto is retired from the FBI. While at the FBI, he was the Senior Scientist and clinical forensic psychologist assigned to the FBI’s Training Division, Behavioral Science Unit (BSU). He taught courses in clinical forensic psychology, stress management, and the psychology of violent behavior. He assisted in developing and teaching the program, “The Use of Deadly Force in Law Enforcement”, established to assist Assistant United States Attorneys review the use of deadly force incidents by members of the law enforcement community. He served as a consultant and trainer in the United States Attorney General’s “Firearm Interdiction Program,” designed to assist local law enforcement in removing firearms from criminals. He served as an Advisory Board Member of the National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism (START) at the University of Maryland. He is currently a consultant to the FORCE SCIENCE RESEARCH CENTER where he is coordinating studies related to officer communications under high stress and to officer involved shooting investigations. He recently co-sponsored a Task Force committee on SUICIDE-by-COP with the Law Enforcement Defense Fund and the Critical Incident Analysis Group of the University of Virginia.
Dr. Pinizzotto has lectured throughout the United States, Canada, Switzerland, Russia, Italy and the United Kingdom on the topics of law enforcement safety, criminal investigative psychology, personality assessment, the psychology of interview and interrogation, hate-related crimes, use of deadly force in law enforcement, suicide by cop, sensory distortions involved in critical incidents, forensic hypnosis and deviant social groups. He is the author of numerous articles reflecting his research in these fields of study and investigation. He has been recognized by the courts as an expert witness in cases involving child exploitation and pornography.
He is an associate editor for the following peer review journals: Criminal Justice and Behavior: An International Journal, International Journal of Offender Therapy and Comparative Criminology, and The Journal of Family Violence. |
