Michael is an amazing coach. He possesses the ability to diagnose an archer’s problem with pinpoint accuracy, and then help that archer address the problem so as to build the archer’s self-confidence. For me personally, when I first started shooting competitively, I needed to understand WHY I was doing things, WHY do certain things work and other things fails—Michael was able to break down all the aspects of shooting so I could understand what was going on and why, and then apply that to my shot execution. What initially drew me to Michael as a coach, was his ability to verbalize certain concepts and communicate them to me in a manner I could comprehend. What kept me going back to Michael as my coach, was his ability to help me address the mental aspects of shooting at the highest competitive level possible and win.

Two years ago, I started archery and competed in some local and state tournaments. I did OK, but had a hard time being consistent. When that tournament season ended, I wanted to do better the following season, so my parents and I decided to look into getting me some coaching. That summer, I started taking lessons from Coach Braden. Coach Braden helped me improve my form, made sure my equipment was set up properly and was the right equipment for me. He taught me about shot execution, shot sequence, and sight picture, and explained the importance of how they work together in the shot process. He always takes the time to explain things in a way I can understand, and because of his years of archery and competition experience, is able to give me countless tips and tricks to help me keep getting better. Working with Coach Braden has made me an overall better and more consistent archer. This past season, I placed 1st at the TFAA State Indoor (and also shot my first 300!), 1st in Southern Sectionals, and 3rd in my first time at NFAA Indoor Nationals (and shot another 300!). I look forward to being able to continue learning from him, and seeing how far I can go in archery with his help.

Michael Braden is a coach who truly knows his craft. It’s difficult for many to be a true talent in their field and also a gifted instructor, but he is one of those rare few that walks the walk and talks the talk. He gives his students the tools and confidence to succeed and starts from the ground up to make sure that every little thing is working to execute that perfect shot. As our daughter began to progress in the sport of archery, we realized that she needed much more help than we could give her. We weren’t sure about her equipment being right for her and even though she shot very well in tournaments, she started showing some inconsistencies while shooting. When we met with Mr. Braden he took a long look at her and knew exactly where to begin. He made large and small changes at the pace she needed, explaining exactly why various steps were being taken. He made sure her equipment was in prime condition and even found a release that was much better suited for her success. Mr. Braden wants our daughter to be the best archer she can be and he tells her that at every lesson. He knows what equipment is appropriate for her age and never pushes “the next best thing,” which is a relief for a parent. His steps for shot execution and his consistent coaching have given her exactly what she needs to train hard and make every shot perfect. During lessons, he spends most of his time analyzing Kate’s shots; he sits directly across from her and watches every step she goes through. After she executes a shot, he gets feedback from her and they note what is and isn’t working – it’s a true collaborative process.

We approached Michael about coaching, because Logan had been shooting for a little over 2 years and had done well shooting at both local and state level tournaments, but he had the desire to take his archery skills/abilities to the next level. Michael initially helped by assessing Logan’s current skills and then helped to fine tune/adjust his grip, form, stance and sight picture to name a few things. As a result, Logan is now a better shooter; he has more focus and confidence. We appreciate that Michael explains the steps Logan needs to take to learn a new skill and progress. Michael is extremely knowledgeable and is willing to take time to answer questions. He sets attainable goals each week for Logan and gives Logan “homework”. As a parent, I appreciate the fact that Michael didn’t push us into any equipment we didn’t need or couldn’t afford. He is very flexible in working with our schedule as well. We have found our experience with Michael to be very educational. Michael is a great “fit” for Logan’s quiet and serious personality. We look forward to continued lessons with Michael. We would definitely recommend Michael to others who want to increase their knowledge of archery and take their skills to a higher competitive level.
