New weight loss drugs are reshaping a dieting industry built on eating less and exercising more. The arsenal of drugs like Wegovy and its predecessor, the diabetes medication Ozempic, has proven successful in eliminating unwanted pounds more quickly and easily than weight loss methods based only on consuming fewer and burning more calories. Such is their disruptive power that even established diet companies like WeightWatchers and brands like Lean Cuisine are trying to keep up. But some health experts worry about traditional diet companies and gyms getting in the medication business and believe the drugs will cater to society’s need for quick fixes.

The Connecticut Senate has passed one of the first major legislative proposals in the U.S. to reign in bias in artificial intelligence decision-making and protect people from harm. But despite Wednesday's 24-12 vote, it's unclear whether the legislation will ultimately become law. There remains concern among Republicans and some top Democrats, including Gov Ned Lamont, the bill might stifle innovation, become a burden for small businesses and make the state an outlier. The bill, which aims to protect people from AI bias in decision-making and deep-fake pornography, stems from the work of two Connecticut task forces and a bipartisan group of lawmakers from other states.
