Lots of used books and dvds at this store. It has a large selection and is nice to browse through. They also buy and trade so you can get rid of your old stuff and get credit.

The guy working was really nice. He answered any questions my dad and I had. It was a very organized bookstore if you just follow the signs! Lots of great finds and hidden gems. Definitely a go-to spot when visiting Monterey!

The meaning of rudeness is too generous for the guy answering the phone on a Tuesday afternoon. I called because I was a customer of the Mountain View store and I was disappointed they have moved to Gilroy out of all places. I bust Mountaun View on occasion and that bookstore was one of my favorite stores. I've brought a lot of business there and my dog loved it. I'm sure the audience that they had in MV was a lot more engaging and brought a lot more business. Suffice to say that they used to close every night at 11:00 pm. Now in Gilroy they close at 7:00 and today they're closed! So that confirms it.

Any way, I called the Monterrey store and I was greeted with a rude, rude, rude guy who I just could not believe his attitude!!! I was about to mention that I loved his store in MV and the guy interrupted me in a very bad way and said: "lady! is there something you want!!??" And then hang up!

I called back and asked for the manager, and he hang up again. I called back a third time and I barely could say I wanted to speak with the manager and he said: "this is my store" and hang up!

First I didn't believe he is the owner, because a merchant would not treat a customer or potential customer to their location that way. At least, that would be very stupid. Second, he sounded young. And probably didn't care because it's not his business.

In any case, I can see I'm not the only one complaining here. I saw other one star reviews calling them grumpy and rude, etc.

Don't waste your time with this place. Certainly I'm not driving to Gilroy either.

I have a soft spot in my heart for a used bookstore that sells lots of paperbacks for cheap. I took advantage of the buy two, get one free deal. If you love books -- *real* books, the kind made from grinding trees into pulp -- then this is your place. Great, eclectic selection. If you like Sci Fi or murder mysteries, then this is your place.

They had a pretty good selection of newer used books! At the time I went they also had a pretty sweet deal (buy two books, get one free)....the only reason I don't give it more stars is because the service is SERIOUSLY LACKING! Like, I was in there 30 mins, I walked by the dude sitting at the counter (playing on his phone) like 50 times...not once did he acknowledge me! When my hubby asked him if they had Osho (that's what I was looking for) he got some vague, super unhelpful response.

I dare you to not find a book here! Fun to browse, one of those rare non-corporate book stores that still exist. The shelves are jam-packed with books (kind of like my house), lots of sections, and good prices. Nice local selections for gift-buying. Street parking is available for 1 hour (free). This time I snagged a Everyman classic Faulkner and a book on crime terminology. Always a good stop when in Monterey.

At a conference staying on Cannery Row in desperate need of a book to read while I enjoyed a cold beer. This place popped up on my search, took a quick walk, and there it was. Upon walking in I instantly loved the place. They had a great selection that was organized and easy to browse. The books were in good condition and fairly priced. I grabbed a few books and was pleased with my purchase. If I lived in Monterey, I would frequent this place often!

Nice local bookstore with lots and lots of unusual books to explore and plenty of cramped niches to park in while you look at the books.

There's also a decent DVD section on the wall near the front door. I found a copy of "Royal Flash" in good condition!

I was only passing through for a short while. Wish I had more time to explore the place.

Great selection of books! I take my books in there so I always have some credit. I love that they're open until 7, even on Sundays! The staff is really nice as well.
