La Grenouille Chef Replaces David Malbequi at La Silhouette

As first reported by Gael Greene on Twitter, David Malbequi, the BLT Market alum who has been garnering a little wave of critical attention as chef at seven month-old Hell's Kitchen restaurant La Silhouette is out of the kitchen. A call to the restaurant confirms and reveals that he will be replaced by Matthew Tropeano, recently the executive chef of French fine dining bastion La Grenouille. A rep at La Silhouette wouldn't divulge the reason for the chef's departure, noting that it's a "delicate matter," as it often is in these cases. It's unclear if Malbequi has a destination given Greene called him a "Gifted French chef avlb for hire."

The restaurant is owned by two Le Bernardin alums and sits on 53rd near 9th Avenue. Under Malbequi, the restaurant earned two stars from Platt, two and a half stars from Cuozzo, a mixed bag from Julia Moskin, and a qualified rave from Lauren Shockey.
