Established in 2004. A while back, I wrote a quote that I now have printed on every bottle of Modus Operandi wine... "For some, determining ones true purpose in life is accomplished thru following the path of least resistance, and thus relinquishing to passion". When I was 24 years old and living in Dallas, I did just that. In 2002, my wife and I decided to follow MY path of least resistance and relinquished to my passion for wine, and in doing that, sold everything we owned and moved half way across the country where I was to pursue my lofty aspiration of becoming a winemaker in Napa Valley. I am delighted and thankful to say that today, Modus Operandi and Vicarious wines is in its 8th year of production with the 2011 harvest. We have had the honor of being selected to be served at a historical White House State Dinner and we have received rave reviews from our critics and customers.

THE best tasting I have ever had! My wife and I tasted wines with Jason Moore on Memorial Day. What an experience. Most Napa wineries start you off with a Sauvignon blanc, and I was thinking this was going to be the standard Napa-like tasting until I took a sip. Many times, I will even pass on sauv. blanc because I'm not crazy about it. I'm glad I didn't! Jason's expression of this varietal makes me reconsider my traditional panning of this grape.
We then tasted wines including Pinot, Vicarious, Cab. Sauv. , Antithesis, and even a barrel tasting. My favorites were the Pinot, Vicarious, and Cab. Sav., and of course the barrel tasting (liquid magic). However, I did not taste a bad wine during the whole experience. Any of these wines would be a treat. We ended up buying a case.
I can always tell my wife's opinion of a wine by the look on her face. I will taste first, without looking at her to firm up my own opinion. Then I take a look at her. She is usually pretty subtle with her expressions, and sometimes unsure about whether she likes a wine or not. I tend to be more of the wine purchaser willing to spend $$$ on good wine. When I looked at her after tasting most of these wines, she was wide eyed and nodding, as if saying emphatically "YES!, we WILL buy some of this!"
The tasting was casual with plenty of time to ask questions and hear from the winemaker himself. I would go so far to say he was more generous with his time than he should have been (Thanks, Jason!). We were able to hear his story and the story of each of the wines. We also had a chance to chat with Jason about life a bit, and we always appreciate an honest, transparent dialogue. He is a gifted winemaker. I feel a bit like I had a chance to hang out with the Picasso of wine. His techniques are exploratory and unconventional, but during this tasting his finished product came together to form liquid art.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0 - Tere H.Denver, CO19162235Apr 25, 2016
Wine & food are my thing. I know my reviews are all over, but this stood out. Jason (winemaker) has amazing talent and his wines show it! This tasting exceeded our expectations! I don't know if the David & Goliath analogy could be used here - and it only comes to mind, because after previously visiting the "goliath's" (think Alpha Omega, Quintessa, Opus, Dariush) - our focus in recent years now have been the "david's" .
White wine is not something I drink - and his Sav Blanc was AMAZING. I looked at my husband, and said, we need this. THIS white I will drink! And the starting off with a good wine, just progressed with each bottle. I can count on one hand, where I've visited a cellar/winery, and every bottle is amazing. Yes, you can have, the "this is good" bottle, but not, the "holy crap, this is amazing" reaction to each bottle. THIS IS THE PLACE.
Wish we would have driven, so we could have brought our purchases with us, now we have to wait till weather cools to have it again!!! AMAZING, and can't wait to go backHelpful 4Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Christina M.Carmichael, CA1321716Dec 29, 2011
Jason's wines ROCK!!! We have tried many great wines from Napa and we must say Modus Operandi Wines are some of the best we have tried. We love being in Jason's wine club and all the perks that come with it! Jason is on his way to becoming one of the superstars in Napa and we are very proud of his commitment and passion to winemaking. Keep cranking them out!!!

Had to review this one. What a cool and different experience. As already stated you get to taste wine with Jason the winemaker and owner. Very cool and down to earth guy. He is not really trying to sell you anything nor trying to tell you what you want to hear. He is there cause he liked wine and enjoys sitting around and sharing stories over wine.
Did I say he makes awesome wines? He does.
Need to experience this one if you go to NApa.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Michael H.Guaynabo, Puerto Rico04Jun 24, 2017
Ridiculously awesome! I made an appointment for the wine tasting, and Mario took great care during the process of helping me finding a perfect time for me and my wife to be able to make on time (my wife had some meetings, so scheduling was somewhat difficult), he kept on contact with me by text, so that small detail, made a huge difference; THAT'S SERVICE. And obviously, the experience of tasting their wines from bottles and barrels was the best one I've had; we learned so much, that definitely, for the price, this is one of the places you should go and live the experience. We also had the opportunity to meet and chat with Jason, the owner. Don't leave Napa without doing this tasting.

Modus Operandi is for serious wine lovers -- do not come here for your 21st birthday booze fest or Napa bachelorette wine blow-out. You'll want to come to really enjoy these high quality wines and appreciate them.
The tasting room serves many small scale wineries. It's a very warm and inviting space. I loved meeting Jason, hearing his story and passion for wine. He is so down to earth, humble, and interesting to talk to! We felt like our tasting was like meeting an old friend. All this coming from a guy whose wines were picked to drink at a WHITE HOUSE DINNER - what?! Just think, now you are drinking the same wine that the President had!
The sauv blanc was probably one of the best I've ever had. The Vicarious is amazing as well!
Modus Operandi is definetly worth the visit if you want to something off the 'regular' Napa circuit and want great, high quality wine and support a small winery.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0 - Colt S.San Francisco, CA177334Apr 1, 2014
To say that Jason is awesome is an understatement. His wine is in the top 1% of wine I've ever had, the facilities are impressive, and he is the most personal and authentic person you'll meet in Napa.
Please go there if you love wine and know a good one from a bad one. Please don't if you are just looking for the next stop for your limo because this guy is a rock star that deserves to be taken seriously (though he's pretty fun as well).
Keep up the good work Jason! We'll see you on our next trip to Napa.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Tim L.Boca Raton, FL03Apr 12, 2017

After 2 vineyard packed days of tasting some of the best and most expensive wines that Napa and Sonoma have to offer, we had a private tasting of Modus Operandi wines. I'll admit that after hearing about the winemaker Jason's humble beginnings and having just seen all the complex methods of some very large, established wineries, I wasn't sure how MO could compete. Then we started the tasting - and we fell in love with this wine!
The personal attention he gives to the craft makes all the difference. He ferments the wine in the barrels, not in huge stainless steel bins, and takes a hands-on approach to the entire winemaking process. Jason is doing everything right with Modus and you know it as soon as your nose picks up what's in the glass and it's confirmed when the wine hits your lips. We especially loved his Pinot Noir and the Antithesis blend. Find this wine and try it, or better yet, schedule a tasting with Jason!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Tina J.Magalia, CA2372May 29, 2016
This was definately a highlight of our wine country experience. Jason was an endearing combination of confidant and humble. His wines show his expertise at winemaking. For an up and coming winemaker he showed through his wines and his stories that he is capable of standing toe to toe with some of the best.
