Save Baby Gavin

gavinThis website is dedicated to Gavin Ryne Winslow. Gavin was born on February 23, 2006 with end-stage renal failure, or congenital kidney failure. Gavy was born with only 10-15% function in one of his kidneys, and 0% function in the other. He was admitted to Children’s hospital of Wisconsin immediately after his birth and started on peritoneal dialysis. Peritoneal dialysis means that he is hooked up to a machine at home every night for 10 hours to “clean out” his blood. Without a kidney transplant, Gavin will not survive.

Update: Gavin received his life saving kidney transplant on January 3, 2008 from the dedicated team at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Gavy’s donor is his hero, and ours, his very special mommy, Jill.

  1. Hi Gavin,

I’d like to share this poem with you as you near your “big day.” I think it expresses the determination and hope that I’ve seen living in that strong little body and mind of yours. I hope you agree. . .

    It’s My Day To Shine
    by Rosemary Ammar

The struggles were long and the work was hard
But the moment is finally mine
So lift me up high Dear Jesus
‘Cuz today is my day to shine.

So hold me up high, Dear Jesus
And set me on top of the world
I’ve come a long way and I’m here to stay
And I ain’t looking back, now how, my way
‘Cuz the sun is shining and the day is new
And there ain’t NOTHING that I can’t do
‘Cuz today is my day to shine.

So hold me up high for the world to embrace
And let me shine like the jewel that I am
For this moment is mine and no one can change it
I’m proud and I’m humbled that the Lord has arranged it.

My pride is strong, my spirit is stronger
And my faith has never betrayed me
So, with a smile on my face and a song in my heart
I accept these blessings God gave me.

So hold me up high, Dear Jesus
And set me on top of the world
I’ve come a long way and I’m here to stay
And I ain’t looking back, no how, no way
‘Cuz the sun is shining and the day is new
And there ain’t NOTHING that I can’t do

‘Cuz today is my day to shine.
