- Instagram, 📢 Just announced: Opening June 8, an intimate grouping of 14 works will coincide with “Monet to Matisse: French Moderns,” providing a number of provocative parallels between exhibitions. “Pissarro to Picasso: Masterworks on Loan from the Kirkland Family Collection” spans nearly a century and follows revolutionary changes in art in Europe and the U.S. From a monumental 1887 canvas by Martin Johnson Heade, the landscape form transmutes from Heade’s highly detailed canvas to Claude Monet’s light-filled Impressionist masterpiece “Banks of the Seine River near Vétheuil,” to Chaïm Soutine’s blood-red expressionist 1918 “Southern Landscape.” Two still lifes by Pablo Picasso trace the shift from the astonishing 1912 debut of cubism with “La Glace” (Bowl of Ice Cream) to its mature form in 1938. Also included are rare landscapes by Henri Matisse and Georgia O’Keeffe, and a stunning scene of lovers floating in the night sky by Chagall based on stories in “Thousand and One Nights.” — Marc Chagall (French, born Belarus, 1887–1985), “Les Fiancés ou Souvenir de Mille et une nuits,” 1973–75. - Instagram, 💬 Monet, Matisse, and…Morisot? Today, few people are familiar with the name and work of Berthe Morisot, one of the founding members of the artists collective known as the Impressionists. Yet Morisot not only exhibited in more Impressionist shows than such famous friends as Monet, Renoir, and Degas, but was lauded by many critics in her time as the most talented in the group and even considered the movement’s leader. Join us for the opening program of “Monet to Matisse: French Moderns” with Dr. Nicole Myers, Chief Curatorial and Research Officer and the Barbara Thomas Lemmon Senior Curator, @DallasMuseumArt, as she explores the innovations that made Morisot the best Impressionist you’ve never heard of. Sat, June 8, 2–3:30 p.m. “Berthe Morisot, Angel of the Unfinished” The Lucy M. and John E. Buchanan, Jr. Lecture 🎟️ Ticket includes museum admission. - Instagram, King Charles III is not the only one seeing red today. His coronation portrait by Jonathan Yeo was unveiled to the world, and its crimson glow brought to mind some of our own vibrant portraits from PAM’s collection bathed in red.
