Welcome to the heart of the Sassolungo

Toni Demetz Alpine Hut

2685 m. Forcella del Sassolungo / Langkofelscharte

The RIFUGIO TONI DEMETZ is located in the heart of the Dolomites, majestically embedded between the peaks of the
SASSOLUNGO and the CINQUE DITA (5 Fingers) on the high rocky pass of the FORCELLA DEL SASSOLUNGO.
We are here in midst of an ancient coral reef where more than 220 million years ago flowed the Tethys Sea.

The RIFUGIO TONI DEMETZ is the ideal starting point for many trekking, hiking and rock climbing routes.
Also a wonderful place to relax and enjoy the beauty of nature and the breathtaking and charming scenery of the Dolomites declared as a UNESCO Natural World Heritage Site in 2009.

In 1954, the mountain guide Giovanni Demetz wanted to build here a refuge, a shelter from wind, rain and snow, a restoring place where you can admire the surrounding landscape from.
With great passion and dedication, Enrico Demetz, Giovanni's youngest son, still runs the refuge together with his wife and daughters.

Come and visit us, we are open from mid-June to early October.

Refuge unique in this kind in the Dolomites

26 climbing routes are located a few steps from the refuge.
New in summer 2022: new via ferrata "Furcela de Saslonch" at Demetz
Our refuge is the ideal location to stay for groups and climbing courses.

The RIFUGIO TONI DEMETZ is the ideal starting point for climbers wanting to try the many routes in the SASSOLUNGO GROUP,
as many of them are in the immediate vicinity of the Refuge itself. An overnight stay at the RIFUGIO TONI DEMETZ offers the benefit
of an early start after a rich and strengthening breakfast, thereby taking advantage of the best hours of the day to enjoy it fully.

How to reach us

To reach the RIFUGIO TONI DEMETZ, you can start from Santa Cristina (Monte Pana), Alpe di Siusi and Passo Sella and walk along beautiful paths.

The last option, Passo Sella, also allows you to easily reach the refuge by a cablecar, indeed rather dated,
but the calm pace gives you the opportunity to enjoy the surrounding mountains and beneath you the flowers and just maybe
a marmot in the Cittá dei Sassi (literally City Of Rocks, you will see why!) The cablecar is open daily from 8.15 am to 4.45 pm.

Restaurant

The restaurant and the bar of the RIFUGIO TONI DEMETZ offer the typical dishes of the traditional Tyrolean cuisine, all freshly cooked, and delicious homemade cakes, also gluten- or lactose-free.

In one of the numerous warm and clear summer-days of the Dolomites you can combine pleasures of sight and taste as from our terrace,
comfortably seated and relaxed, you can not only admire the landscape but also watch the efforts of the rock climbers,
scaling the surrounding walls eager to feel the breath of the rocks and finally to conquer the peak.
